‘What’s for Dinner?’: A report on our World’s Food Production
Around the world, processes of food production are steadily increasing their productivity. However, the rising populations of many countries have created a harsh reality for many: a shortage of food which has caused many to go hungry, or struggle to find food.

Most of our society remains dependent on growing their own crops, and many, while it is greatly looked down upon, still hold serfs, their continual service passed down from generation to generation, creating a vicious cycle which many will never live to get out of.However, since Medieval times, the number of serfs has greatly decreased and many have been able to move into more urban city environments.
New improvements that have made farming much easier have also come into the picture of late. One of these is the addition of metal to the moldboard plow to allow great efficiency at tilling the soil. |

This improvement has vastly bettered both the lives of the farmer, the animal pulling the plow, and the people who will soon eat the food produced from the fields. Strengthening the plow allowed a deeper till and greater soil malleability. This helps more plants grow, thus increasing the production of a field or farm. |
In Asia, rising climates have allowed rice patties and other agricultural avenues to thrive, creating food surpluses which foreshadows a jump in population that will likely decimate those surpluses. But, for now Asia- China especially- is one of the leaders of the pack in agricultural production.
The America’s are somewhat behind on the food front, with most of their labor still coming from forced labor situations. However, they do produce a major supply of crops for Europe, with staples like wheat, sugar, and coffee they are highly important to the world economy and to the people who depend on their food to eat. |
