More discoveries in space since 1600’s
Although the 1600’s actually made many astronomical findings, since then, that number has only grown and our understanding of the world in which we live in and what is going on around us has greatly shifted since the times 500 years ago. As such we feel it is very important in the understanding of our universe to take a closer look at some of these new discoveries. It is crucial to note, though, that none of these new findings would be possible without Galileo Galilei.

One of these categories of new knowledge is the discovery of new planets. In 1781 Uranus was discovered by an astronomer named Herschel. Then, in 1930 the last planet (and now dwarf planet) in our solar system was discovered. These new planetary discoveries allowed us to have a much greater understanding of our solar system, and the planets which populate it.
Another line of space discoveries which goes totally beyond what was thought possible by those in the 17th century was the use of rockets to send animals and people into space and onto the moon. This type of technology has allowed us as a society to discover so much more about space by actually being to experience it firsthand. On a non-scientific note, it is interesting that both the words humongous and monstrous have both become real words and that we have explored Jupiter's moons through use of the "Voyager" series. Coincidence? I think not. |
