Evangelista Torricelli
ROME-Evangelista Torricelli, the inventor of the barometer, was born on October 15, 1608 in Faenza, Romagh which is Modern Italy. Torricelli came from a poor family. To provide Evangelista with an education, his family sent him to live with his uncle.
In 1624, he studied philosophy and math for two years at Jesuit College. Torricelli introduced his many talents and his uncle set up for him and Castilli to study together. |
Letters between Galileo and Torricelli were exchanged explaining their scientific progression. Evangelist was a follower of Galileoand was very interested in astronomy.
Evangelista Torricelli was the first to determine the principle of a barometer. He experimented and began to create a vacuum but realized that he had created a barometer, which is an instrument that measures atmosphere pressure. On October 25, 1647 Evangelista Torricelli died due to a typhoid fever. In his honor, asteroid 7437 was named after Torricelli. |
